CIC president Ralph Krüger handed a donation of 500.00 Euros over to the small church of Mikri Panagia in the old town of Rethymnon.
Papas Giannis and his team organize a food bank there for those in need.

Donation to "Mikri Panagia"
CIC president Ralph Krüger handed a donation of 500.00 Euros over to the small church of Mikri Panagia in the old town of Rethymnon.
Papas Giannis and his team organize a food bank there for those in need.
The amount went straight to Antonakis' butcher's shop, where the food bank team was able to buy groceries correspondingly.
Papas Giannis cordially thanks the members of the CIC for their support.
During the current pandemic, many social projects need additional help, and the CIC will use membership fees and donations to that end as efficiently as possible.

Donation to "Smile of the Child"
CIC Secretary Stuart Walsh hands a donation of 500.00 Euros to Maria Foustalieraki from Smile of the Child at their new facility at Stamathioudaki 59 in Rethymnon.
The CIC had planned to carry on the tradition of Bob and Eveleen Wright holding a charity 'coffee & cakes' morning but the Coronavirus Pandemic meant this had to be cancelled.

Donation to "Smile of the Child"
CIC Secretary Stuart Walsh hands a donation of 500.00 Euros to Maria Foustalieraki from Smile of the Child at their new facility at Stamathioudaki 59 in Rethymnon.
The CIC had planned to carry on the tradition of Bob and Eveleen Wright holding a charity 'coffee & cakes' morning but the Coronavirus Pandemic meant this had to be cancelled.
Shortly after the lockdown began in March, the board made the decision to contribute a donation to Smile of the Child instead. An event is now planned for May 2021.

A laser printer and a pressure cooker could be purchased for the Syllogos Agapi from the sales proceeds of the 2019 CIC calendar, and handed over on February 15, 2020.
The Syllogos Agapi is a facility for mentally disabled children and juveniles in Rethymnon.

CIC President Ralph Krüger and CIC Secretary Stuart Walsh visited the old people's home in Misiria to present them with a piece of medical equipment designed to give patients vital help if they get into breathing difficulties.
In extreme cases this can be a life saver.

We first went to the village of Argiroupolis which was named Lappa in ancient times. In the upper village there is a Roman mosaic which we unfortunately could not see as during the winter they cover it with plastic sheets and sand in order to protect it from the weather.

The weather on this National Holiday (25 of March, 1821: start of the liberation fights against the Turkish occupation) was indeed not made for an extended stroll, but we found a tiny and very nice kafenion.
For lunch we went to Taverna Lemonia in Hiliomoudou, and on the way back we had a coffee stop at the Café Gefyra in Vrysses.

Coach trip to Apokoronas
CIC treasurer Ralph Krüger arranged this year's first whole-day bus excursion for us.
Our first destination was the ▶ Monastery of St. George in Karydi near Vamos with its well worth seeing ruins of Crete's earliest ever licensed olive oil factory.
From there we went to have a coffee stop in Gavalohori, and after that we had a guided tour of the Historic ▶ Folklore Museum there which is very well designed and presents a wealth of information.
For lunch, our bus driver Manolis picked the Taverna Platanos in Armeni which revealed to be a very good choice as well.

CIC member Matthias Konopka prepared for this winter half year a Greek course for us.
Our teacher is Mr. Giannis Andriopoulos, the headmaster of the primary school in Viran Episkopi by the Old National Road to Perama.
Lessons take place every Tuesday and Friday, starting at 5:00 pm (17:00 hrs) in the primary school of Viran Episkopi (left hand behind the small church of Agios Nikolaos).

Excursion and Wine Tasting
CIC Secretary Stuart Walsh arranged this car pool excursion for us:
"I reckon it had been about 5 years since we last organised a visit to a winery for a tasting so set about organising another of these ever popular events.
We met at the bus stop in Panormo then made the short journey along a somewhat bumpy track to the Klados Winery. This is a small family run business first established in 1997 which moved to its current site in 2007. Full details can be found on their ▶ web-site.
Stelios Klados, the son of founder Manolis, showed us the organic grape vines planted around the facility and explained the production process to us. He then showed us how the wine is stored and matured before being bottled.
Then came our favourite part - the tasting! They produce three whites and a red. Stelios explained the differences between each of them and how best to enjoy each one. We all liked them so much we did in fact purchase quite a lot between us!
From there we drove to nearby Achlade where 28 members and friends sat down to a wonderful lunch in the small taverna run by the family Tsintari, much of what we ate coming from their own back garden."

Coach trip to the Sfakia
CIC treasurer Ralph Krüger arranged for us this day excursion.
In the most interesting ▶ War Museum of Kares on the northern edge of the Askifou Plateau, Andreas Hatzidakis, the son of the museum's founder, explained the big number of collected pieces to us in detail.
We then tried the Sfakiot Pitta, a kind of a pancake with fresh sheep cheese and thyme honey, at Taverna Drosia in the village of Imbros.
After two more stops at Kallikratis and Miriokefala we had a joint meal under shady trees at Taverna Palios Mylos by the waterfalls of Argyroupolis.
